How to Measure Influencer Marketing ROI (Without Fooling Yourself)

The reason influencer marketing has a credibility problem isn't that it doesn't work — it's that most of it is measured with screenshots. Reach, likes, and "engagement rate" tell you a post performed; they don't tell you it earned anything. Here's the measurement stack we run on every Primenaire campaign.

Layer 1: Direct response (the floor)

  • UTM-tagged links per creator, so every session and sale in GA4 has a name attached.
  • Unique promo codes per creator — they capture the buyers who watch a Reel, then type your site into a browser two days later.
  • Pixel events when the platform allows, so winning content can be retargeted and whitelisted.

Direct response understates influencer impact by 30–50% — people rarely click in the moment. That's why it's the floor, not the whole story.

Layer 2: Brand lift (the multiplier)

Watch three numbers in the campaign fortnight versus the fortnight before: brand-name search volume (Search Console), direct traffic, and store/marketplace searches if you sell on Amazon or quick-commerce. A campaign that moves these is working even when last-click attribution says otherwise.

Layer 3: Blended CAC (the verdict)

Total marketing spend divided by total new customers, tracked monthly. If influencer spend goes up and blended CAC goes down, the channel is subsidising everything else — usually because creator content is lifting your ad CTRs and conversion rates too. This is the number your CFO will actually respect.

The traps

  • Follower-count math ("reached 2M people!") — impressions are not people, and people are not buyers.
  • Engagement rate worship — comments from other creators and giveaway hunters inflate it trivially.
  • EMV (earned media value) — a made-up currency. If a report leads with EMV, ask what it's hiding.
Rule of thumb: before any campaign starts, write down the one number that defines success and the date you'll check it. If a partner won't commit to that sentence, they're selling reach, not results.
